Thank you for your kind review and it was great to have you here again. Also very nice to have seen your new family member.
The new tree house above will become a social place and downstairs there is a place created to sleep one or more nights under a beautiful starry sky.
So who knows, who wants to do that next year? There are enough houses here to spend good times for all your family and friends.
We have been great fans of spending our holidays here for quite some years now. Our hosts Senya and Ron make us feel most welcome every time. And although we have regularly been in this area, we always discover new things worth visiting.
Last June we – four grownups - stayed at the Cabana. A lovely fully equipped holiday home with a private terrace and beautifully located in the great garden which offers sunny as well as shady spots. And when it gets too hot, there is always the swimming pool!
The new tree hut is great to meet with other guests and also offers
a nice “open air” accommodation underneath. Who wouldn’t want to spend the night under the stars…
Senya and Ron can put up groups of up to 16 people! Would love to have a family/friend gathering there some time
Can’t wait to go back!
Talking in German sounds to us easier than writing.
It was a pleasure to meet again after so many years. The years fell away as the bottom of a long friendship had been created 30 years ago in the warm African country Togo in the small town of Kpalime - where we were then stranded with our car problem.
Fortunately Aloys + Andrea found the time to visit us at Casa Granjamor so we could spend wonderful time together in the evenings.
Nice that they were very happy about the structure of our Solar, the view over the valley and occasionally relax in the warm pool.
Hope that it will not take so long that we will see each other again, there is always arrange a place at Casa Granjamor for both of you.
Goodbye Ron & Senya
We arrived to a very warm welcome by Senya and Ron. After an introduction to our temporary residence, we were shown to our comfortable, super clean and tastefully decorated apartment which had absolutely everything you need for a holiday stay. The property is like a country estate. The weather was unusually mild and warm so we could enjoy the private and sunny terrace and the great views across the valley. The heated swimming pool was great to relax in. The central location of Casa Granjamor is perfect for trips to surrounding villages brimming in history, colour and interesting sights. If you want the hustle and bustle, many of Lisbon's museums and historical areas can be done in a day trip. Although the kitchen is well-equipped, there is a wide variety of restaurants in the area offering great food at very reasonable prices. Senya knows them all and can advise according to one's wishes. We tried too many to mention. I am only sorry that luggage restrictions would not allow us to transport a complete Portuguese dinner set, although some places will organise shipment. The choice of pottery is endless. We will definitely return there on our next big trip.
Response Ron en Senya:
We were very happy with this guest here in the Solar to receive, even the weather was excellent with so many things in the environment could be seen. Too bad they can carry only a certain weight in the plane, a very different set was bought for Caldas da Rainha is a very famous place for ceramics. We hope they come back for other things to see what this area offers even more.
August 2011 me, my husband Alain, Maxime (14) and Nanthan (10) spent 1 week in Cabana - my brother and sister-in-law were staying in Solar. Both are very well fitted out, the owner Senya didn't forget anything for our comfort. Boys loved to be in the swimming pool when we were there, even if we visited a lot of places. Senya and Ron know the best all over the village, they are fabulous guides. The houses are very welcoming, with large terraces in front the garden, nice to make a break.
Response Ron and Senya:
On a early rainy Monday morning in August our French guests arrive, but no problem for the 2 families. What a start of their holiday! Luckily the "Cabana" and the "Solar" were ready to receive them and a nice swim in the pool was more then welcome after a long drive from South of France! Think they enjoy their stay here and they visit a lot of places in the area, it was great to hear all their stories. Even the weather wasn't good for the time of the year, pity, we have seen a lot of happy faces and their spirit was high!
August 2010 saw my wife, youngest daughter (18) and me spending two weeks in Solar - my youngest brother-in-law with his wife and two young children (all Dutch) were staying in Cabana, so there were seven of us in all. The descriptions of the accommodation were perfectly accurate (in fact we could have accommodated another teenager in Solar with ease), and the main table in Solar easily took all seven of us for family meals - very important! The weather was perfect, so we spent a lot of time eating outside - BBQ's etc - and there is no shortage of all the gear that is needed. Solar is very well fitted out, and everything works well! We did find that the one bedroom without any windows was rather on the hot side at night, but that is easily solved with a table fan running at slow speed. A car is absolutely essential, as the village is fairly remote and there are some very steep hills around! Having said that, everything that one can want is only 15 to 20 minutes drive - the nearest beach, the smart town at Caldas. And if one drives for little more than an hour the range of places with the most fabulous historical buildings and architecture is endless. One tip - we did not make full use of the many small, local village restaurants that are close by. Obviously one goes to a few smart restaurants, but these are relatively expensive (as one would expect). The small local village eating places are unbelievably cheap, the food is terrific and the wine is plentiful. Believe me, if it is good enough for the 'locals' to eat it is good enough for the visitors as well! One word of warning - some of the portions are gigantic, especially if the meal is lunch rather than dinner. Very often, one main course will do for two adults. The owners, our hosts (Ron and Senya), are well known for being quite mad - but in the nicest possible way! They simply cannot do enough for you, and their local knowledge is worth more than any guide book. If they suggest going on a wine tasting visit to a fairly local vineyard then do it! The vineyard is owned by a Brit married to a German, and the whole thing is great fun. But you will need a 'designated driver'! It doesn't matter what age you are, if you are a beach freak or a 'travelling around' freak, it is all there waiting for you - and it is all served up on a silver platter by the incomparable Ron and Senya. If you do decide to go - leave some for us, cos we will go again!"
"This lovely couple and daughter came years ago in our former house. And when he phones me to ask if there was a place to stay I cannot refuse them, because we know already in advance that the summer will be marvelous with all this family (in total 7 persons) around us. When they arrive it looks like "if it was yesterday" easy going! The family dinners with talking and drinking in the beautiful evenings are unforgettable! And they're guests and open for more information about our environment it is easy to give all what they wanted to know. We hope for the nearest future that we will see them back.
